Kinds of volunteer opportunities:
• Drop-in Opportunities
Help with trail maintenance and/or exotic plant management on an upcoming scheduled session! You do not need to follow the formal application process in order to "drop-in,” but if you decide to volunteer with the group on a regular basis, you will need to submit an application and follow the steps in “ How to Apply”.
National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 25:
Join the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance America's public lands on National Public Lands Day (NPLD), Saturday, September 25! Choose from an Adopt-a-Trail sweep, clean-up projects with Cuyahoga Valley Trails Council, or an exotic plant management session.
- Age Minimum: Some projects are open to all ages; others to ages 16 and older. Individuals, families, and groups welcome!
- Join In!: Learn more about the projects and how to register! All NPLD volunteers will receive a coupon for free entry into their favorite federal public land areas that have entrance fees.
Trail Maintenance: Adopt-a-Trail volunteers "sweep" the trail by picking up litter, trimming branches, clearing culverts, and reporting trail conditions; and Cuyahoga Valley Trails Council volunteers assist in more rigorous volunteer work by building, maintaining and improving trails using hand tools and power equipment.
- Age Minimum: All ages welcome, with the following limitations: Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult unless cleared ahead of time by the crew leader; and, all volunteers under 18 must bring a Trailwork Volunteer Agreement Form signed by their parent or guardian in order to participate.
- Join in!: View the schedules here: Adopt-a-Trail and Cuyahoga Valley Trails Council. Call the volunteer crew leader to confirm your attendance one or two days prior to the session. And, please download, fill-out, and bring the Trailwork Volunteer Agreement Form with you to expedite the start of the session.
- Read the Adopt-a-Trail Manual for more information.
Exotic Plant Management: Exotic Plant Management volunteers remove exotic, invasive plant infestations.
- Age Minimum: All ages welcome, but children under 16 must have a parent or guardian with them; and, all volunteers under 18 must bring an Exotic Plant Management Volunteer Agreement Form signed by their parent/guardian in order to participate.
- Join in!: View the Exotic Plant Management Volunteer Program Schedule here. No pre-registration is required (unless otherwise noted). And, please fill-out and bring the Exotic Plant Management Volunteer Agreement Form with you to expedite the start of the session. Participants should bring drinking water and leather (or other sturdy) gardening gloves to protect their hands. Long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy boots are recommended due to off-trail terrain and potential poison ivy exposure.
