All the Rivers Run Curriculum
All the Rivers Run, Level I – Grades 4-6
The curriculum, cutting edge and aligned with Ohio’s state academic standards in science, math, language arts, and social studies, is a place-based, participatory learning experience like no other. From encounters with historical characters, a journey to the river, night hikes, and boisterous opening ceremonies, to CVEEC traditions such as FROG Time (organized games), campfires, and monitoring food waste at meals, students learn about the environment and themselves in this four-day experience. By the end of the week they'll all be singing along with the music created especially for this program by Alex Bevan.
All the Rivers Run, Level II – Grades 7-8
Humans interact with the natural environment in many different ways, from passive enjoyment to intensive management of our resources. In the Level II curriculum, students take on the challenge of providing living spaces for people while minimizing the human footprint on the landscape. Highlights of the program include determining the biotic index of a tributary stream by collecting and identifying macroinvertebrates, assessing the quality of habitat surrounding a headwater stream by conducting a modified EPA habitat evaluation, and participation in small-group collaborations to create sustainable, environmentally friendly communities. Level II aligns with Ohio state academic content standards in science, math, earth science, language arts, and social studies.
