Celebrate the return of the Great Blue Heron in Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Peninsula, OH- Join Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association, Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Old Trail School on Saturday, March 6, 2010, for the third annual Blue Heron Day Celebration: Breakfast with the Birds. The event will highlight the important mission we all have to protect and preserve Cuyahoga Valley National Park while educating future generations about the Blue Heron, and environmental and habitat protection.
Blue Heron Day Celebration runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Old Trail School located at 2315 Ira Rd. in Bath. Breakfast is served until noon.
Blue Heron Day begins with a pancake breakfast, featuring Bob Evans pancakes and sausage. There will also be various stations featuring educational activities, crafts, photos, puppet shows, etc. that allow guests to learn about herons and their habitat. Attendees can also visit the Bath Road Heronry by hiking or taking a Cascade Auto Group Complimentary Shuttle.
New this year – Early Risers Heronry Hike – hike to the heronry and then return to Old Trail School for pancakes and activities. The hike will depart from Old Trail School at 8 a.m. and be led by Cuyahoga Valley National Park rangers. Also new this year, meet Christina Wald, illustrator of Henry the Impatient Heron, who will do heron illustrations at the event. She will also have copies of the book available for purchase and will be signing them.
