Volunteers Needed For RiverDay 2010

May. 05, 2010

Brecksville, Ohio - Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) and Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association (CVNPA) are seeking energetic volunteers to help clean up the Cuyahoga River watershed in celebration of the 20th Annual RiverDay on Saturday, May 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All plastic removed will be recycled by Polyflow, an Akron-based early stage advanced energy producer that converts a mixed stream of dirty and mixed plastics into valuable chemicals. This event commemorates the 41st anniversary of the infamous burning of the Cuyahoga River and is part of the Friends of the Crooked River’s RiverDay 2010. For more information on the other sites in RiverDay 2010, visit www.cuyahogariver.net or call (216) 651-3476.

Polyflow will showcase to volunteers that their tangible efforts to clean up the environment are complimented by a technology that converts polymer waste into valuable end products.  Polyflow Chief Executive Officer Jay Schabel states, “We want to work with the National Park Service and capture the waste before it passes on to the larger bodies of water. Moreover, we want to showcase a technology that can work hand-in-hand with environmental efforts in order to promote the greater good for the earth and profitability for business.”

Volunteers will meet at Boston Mills Ski Resort at 8:30 a.m. with projects ending by 1 p.m. Volunteers will assemble into crews, choose a project site, and carpool to the site. Participants will help manage populations of Japanese Knotweed and remove trash from three project sites in the Cuyahoga River watershed.
